For my Contextual Urban Design class, we chose a site in Brooklyn to rethink and redesign. My plan, Reconnecting Farragut Houses, seeks to tackle the high crime and isolation residents face by reintroducing the original 1920s-1940s street pattern, with the thinking that introducing amenities will help to enhance the living conditions of the residents.
The goals of the Reconnecting Farragut Houses plan are to:
- Densify the site through new residential and commercial development
- Reintroduce the old street-grid
- Create better designed and landscaped open spaces to encourage more lingering and activity in public spaces
